This indicative flood level was defined by the NSW Public Works and Lake Macquarie City Council in 2001 to inform flood risk management. This level has not yet been defined by SES/BOM and does not directly correspond to minor/moderate/major flood levels for Lake Macquarie. The Kalang Road alarm triggers at 1.0m AHD before the water cuts the road at Baker Street near the railway line.

Orange line corresponds to Level 2 Flood Classification (1.1m) in Stony Creek.
Red line corresponds to Level 3 Flood Classification (1.5m) in Stony Creek.
These indicative flood levels have been determined by Lake Macquarie City Council and Manly Hydraulics Laboratory to provide sufficient early warning of flooding to residents, emergency services and Council, and also in recognition of design flood events and predicted damage. These levels have not yet been defined by SES/BOM and do not directly correspond to minor/moderate/major flood levels for Lake Macquarie.
